Dimitris Gourdoukis will lecture on the December 2nd, 2020, at the School of Architecture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in the context of the seminar “Critical Images”, taught by Anastasions Tellios. The lecture, under the title “References, Standards and Theories: The Garden and the Woods v2.0” will comment on current developments in architectural theory and production, on the re-emergence of the concept of ‘reference’ as a valid design tool, albeit re-imagined in a post-digital context. Within the current, protocologicaly controlled processes, references need to move beyond algorithmically pre-selected suggestions towards the production of architectural narratives and mythologies. The lecture is an expansion of the previous lecture given last year.
The lecture will present the above concepts through the example of the design processes behind recent object-e projects like The Kozani Train Station Area Competition, the Loumaki Park Competition, The Trikala Square Competition and the Competition for the Urban Development of the NARGEF area in Larisa, where an architectural narrative is constructed through the concepts of the Garden and the Woods.
