x–s is about connecting, about providing a background, about excessive furniture. It is an interior design project where the obvious task was to connect two small, old apartments and rearrange their interior spaces in order to create a new larger one. The hidden task was to provide the necessary space and propose an arrangement for an excessive amount of antique furniture, owned by the prospective inhabitants.
The design process started with an indexing of the existing furniture. The layout of the new apartment was defined both by the needs of everyday life as well as the accommodation of the furniture – each piece representing a different design style. Much attention was paid in an effort to accommodate modern facilities within an old shell that was characterized by an unjustifiably dense and highly irregular (and largely illogical) structural system. The final result resembles a furniture museum, overlaid with traces of everyday living.
