As the Greek city is almost exclusively structured based around the apartment building typology, it is commonly believed that no room for intervention is left.
The residential/apartment building provided an easy solution to the post-war scarcity of housing; it was a quick and financially efficient way of mass-construction of residences, therefore quickly becoming a pivotal part of the history of modern cities.
Therefore, the research questions on which our thesis project is based is as follows:
“How can residents intervene in this recently arisen historicity?
How can one seek common areas/meeting spaces within the already highly saturated pre-existing building structure?”
The purpose of the present thesis project is to suggest easily combined strategies and proposals as personalized solutions, which will allow every neighborhood and building block to select those that best suit the needs of their residents at any given time. The goal is for a co-living guide to be created; one that will allow the pre-existing building structure to be modified so that the strategies may be combined according to the residents’ needs.
This investigation delves deep into the strategies and practices through which one can transfigure the existing living conditions within cities, as a medium to reconsider the way that we live/co-habituate with our neighbors.

Η ελληνική πόλη καθώς είναι σχεδόν εξ’ ολοκλήρου δομημένη με τον τύπο της πολυκατοικίας φαίνεται να μην αφήνει περιθώρια για παρεμβάσεις. Η πολυκατοικία αποτέλεσε τη λύση στο πρόβλημα της κατοίκησης των μεταπολεμικών δεκαετιών, ως ένας γρήγορος και οικονομικός τρόπος μαζικής ανέγερσης κατοικιών, αποτελώντας κομμάτι της σύγχρονης ιστορίας των πόλεων.
Το ερώτημα λοιπόν γύρω από τη διπλωματική εργασία είναι :
«Πώς μπορεί να επέμβει ο χρήστης σε αυτή τη νεότερη «ιστορικότητα;
Και πως αναζητάμε τον κοινό χώρο συνάντησης μέσα στο ήδη κορεσμένο κτιριακό απόθεμα;»
Ο στόχος της παρούσας εργασίας είναι να προτείνει συνδυαστικά στρατηγικές και προτάσεις σαν εξατομικευμένες λύσεις ώστε κάθε γειτονιά ή κάθε οικοδομικό τετράγωνο να επιλέγει αυτές που εξυπηρετούν τις εκάστοτε ανάγκες των κατοίκων της. Σκοπός είναι να δημιουργηθεί ένα εγχειρίδιο συν-κατοίκησης που να μπορεί να τροποποιήσει το υφιστάμενο κτιριακό απόθεμα και να συνδυαστούν οι πρακτικές σύμφωνα με τους χρήστες.
Πρόκειται για μία διερεύνηση των στρατηγικών και των πρακτικών μέσω των οποίων μπορούμε να μετασχηματίσουμε την υφιστάμενη συνθήκη κατοίκησης των πόλεων, σαν ένας τρόπος να επανεξετάσουμε τον τρόπο που κατοικούμε με τους γείτονες μας.
