Across the field

The proposal concerns the extension of an elementary school and kindergarten in Nicosia, Cyprus. This extension, situated at the rear of the existing structure, will house the kindergarten on the ground floor and classrooms on the second floor. The space between the two buildings was originally planned to accommodate a 5X5 football field and a basketball court. The proposed design however, utilizes the roof of the new building for one of the courts, thereby maximizing the open space on the ground level. The organization of the building, both in terms of layout and elevation, follows the lines of the existing structure and reinterprets them in a new formation.
