Fabrication Protocols: Modulated Surfaces explores the possibilities that digital fabrication offers for design, through a constant experimentation with a production of 3-dimentional physical objects. Each new object is the product of the modulation of the previous one. As a result, a dynamic continuum arises, that guides the design process. The fabrication of the objects, instead of following the predefined routines of CNC machines, bypass them to create custom communication protocols between designer and machine. Consequently, the designer is placed within the production process.

Οι εργασίες διερευνούν τις δυνατότητες που προσφέρουν στον σχεδιασμό οι μέθοδοι ψηφιακής κατασκευής μέσα από συνεχείς πειραματικές διαδικασίες παραγωγής τρισδιάστατων αντικειμένων. Οι δουλειές των φοιτητών, αντί να ακολουθούν τους προκαθορισμένους τρόπους λειτουργίας των μηχανήματων ψηφιακής κατασκευής, τους παρακάμπτουν σε μία προσπάθεια να δημιουργήσουν τα δικά τους πρωτόκολλα επικοινωνίας με αυτές και να εφεύρουν έτσι νέες δυνατότητες που επανατοποθετούν τον σχεδιαστή εντός της διαδικασίας παραγωγής.
